ED Seizes BMW Car of Abhay Kant Pathak, Odisha Cadre IFoS

In the PMLA case involving Abhay Kant Pathak, who was formerly the IFoS, the ED has carried out a search and has seized a luxury car with a value of Rs 74.22 lac (BMW-620D GT bearing Registration No. OD-07-AG7272).

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted a search under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act of 2002 (PMLA, 2002) in the case of Abhay Kant Pathak, a former member of the Indian Forest Service (IFoS), 1987 batch of Odisha cadre, who was working in the capacity of Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Plan, Programme, and Afforestation for the state of Odisha. The ED seized a luxury car worth Rs. 74.22 lac (BMW-620D GT with registration number OD-07-AG7272). During the investigation, the ED discovered that Akash Kumar Pathak, son of Abhay Kant Pathak, had secretly attempted to sell the aforementioned BMW Car to a person who lived in Belagaavi, Karnataka and worked as an Old Car Dealer in Mumbai.

The ED has initiated an investigation in the case under the PMLA, 2002, based on a FIR filed by the Vigilance Cell PS in Cuttack, Odisha, for disproportionate assets (DA) amounting to Rs. 9,35,42,594/- by Abhay Kant Pathak and members of his family. It was also revealed that Odisha Police had registered seven additional FIRs and chargesheets against Akash Kumar Pathak S/o Abhay Kant Pathak and Abhay Kant Pathak, in which they were charged with duping gullible people in the name of providing jobs in Tata Motors.

On 03/12/2021, the ED conducted a search operation under the PMLA, 2002 at the residence of Abhay Kant Pathak located at Flat No. 101, Viswanath Villa, Vivekananda Marg, Bhubaneswar, which resulted in the seizure of a Tata Harrier car valued at Rs 15 Lakhs, as well as various documents and evidence that were incriminating (which was confirmed by the Adjudicating Authority). Following this, the ED issued a Provisional Attachment Order against Abhay Kant Pathak and other individuals, under which the ED attached identified properties totaling Rs. 29.83 Lakhs that belonged to them (Provisional Attachment Order was confirmed by the Adjudicating Authority under PMLA).

Further investigation in the case is being conducted by the ED.
