ICAI has merged GMCS-I with Orientation Course (OC) w.e.f. 1 July, 2016 and has renamed GMCS-II as GMCS which is mandatorily required to be completed before applying for ICAI membership. Further, students those who have registered for Articleship during 1 May, 2012 to 31 Dec. 2014 but have not completed the GMCS-I, shall be required to undergo Orientation Course w.e.f. 1 Jan. 2017 in lieu thereof.
A. Select Category of Students required by ICAI to Complete 15 days Orientation Course in Lieu of GMCS-I:
The ICAI has decided that the students registered for Practical Training (Articleship) on or after 1 May, 2012 uptill 31 Dec. 2014 but not completed the GMCS-I course, shall be required to undergo Orientation Course (15 days) w.e.f. 1 Jan. 2017 in lieu of GMCS-I.
This will be applicable to the students who have completed Orientation Programme (35 hours), and registered for articleship during the above period but not completed GMCS-I.
The above students have been advised by the ICAI to register at the online portal https://www.icaionlineregistration.org/ or contact the nearest Programme Organising Unit (POU) at Regional Offices & Branches for registration and to complete the same at the earliest.
B. ICAI merges GMCS-I with 15 days Orientation Course w.e.f. 1 July 2016 and renames GMCS-II as GMCS:
ICAI has decided to dispense with the General Management and Communication Skills-I (GMCS-I) Course and to merge its syllabus with Orientation Programme. Orientation Course shall be conducted with a duration of 15 days (90 hours) with the following modalities:
1. Students enrolling to the batches commencing from July 1, 2016 onwards would be required to undergo Orientation Course for 15 days in accordance with the new syllabus and new guidelines.
2. The fee for 15 days Orientation Course will be Rs.7,000/- (Rupees seven thousand only).
3. Students registered for practical training on or after May 1, 2012 (since the date of commencement of GMCS-I) till December 31, 2014 would be required to undergo GMCS-I up till December 31, 2016, if not done earlier. Rest all categories of the students who have already completed Orientation Programme (35 hours) are not required to do GMCS-I and will be deemed to have fulfilled the aforestated requirements.
4. The nomenclature of GMCS-II would be changed to GMCS which the students would be mandatorily required to undergo before applying for membership of the Institute.
The above decision of ICAI would be applicable for the students w.e.f. July 1, 2016.

Read the point B.3 there is clearly mentioned. No need to do GMCS-1. You will be deemed to have fulfilled the aforestated requirements.
