The Institute of Chartered Accountants India (ICAI) has been awarded the Green Ribbon Champions Award for Commitment to Sustainable Accounting by Network 18. This recognition highlights ICAI’s leadership role and dedication to sustainability.
CA. Aniket Sunil Talati, President, ICAI, along with CA. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Singhal, Central Council Member, received the award from Shri Rohit Kumar Singh, Secretary, Food and Public Distribution Govt. of India.
ICAI’s Commitment to Sustainability
ICAI has taken various initiatives to promote sustainability in India. One of the biggest accountancy events in the world, the 21st edition of the World Congress of Accountants, was hosted by ICAI in 2022 on the theme “Building Trust Enabling Sustainability.” This event was attended by over 10,000 delegates from 120 countries, and around 8000 tonnes of carbon credits were generated, making it the first Carbon Neutral Congress held in the history of WCOA.
ICAI has also pioneered initiatives such as bringing out Social Audit Framework & Social Audit Standards on 16 thematic focus areas, developing the concept of Social Stock Exchange, and coming out with Sustainability Reporting Maturity Model (SRMM) Version 2.0. ICAI is committed to reducing paper consumption by encouraging paperless working, promoting e-meetings and shifting to e-journals.
ICAI’s Sustainable Practices
ICAI conducts countrywide Tree Plantation Drives and other sustainable initiatives towards creating a sustainable future. The institute encourages compliance with existing accounting and sustainability related disclosure requirements and aims to strengthen the assurance framework to build a solid bridge between sustainability related risks and corporate financial reporting.
