Procedure for Preferential CoO (Exports to Australia): DGFT

The DGFT has announced the procedure for issuance of Preferential Certificates of Origin (CoO) regarding exports to Australia under the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (Ind-Aus ECTA) at eCoO portal from December 29, 2022.

When an e-CoO application is submitted and approved online under the Ind Aus ECTA, the DGFT system generates one electronic copy of the CoO certificate, which bears the image signature of the issuing officer and the stamp of the issuing agency. The authenticity of any eCoO can be verified by scanning the QR code on the certificate or entering the certificate number into the DGFT COO portal’s ‘Verify Certificate’ link.

Procedure for Preferential CoO (Exports to Australia): DGFTRegarding the processing of eCoO applications at the DGFT portal, the Indian Exporter should be aware that a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) will be required for electronic submission. The digital signature would be identical to that used in other DGFT applications. The digital signature may be Class III, and the firm’s IEC should be embedded in the DSC.

Any new applicant exporter would be required to register at the portal at first. The password would be sent to the IEC holder’s email and mobile phone number. If the IEC holder wishes to update the email address to which communication will be sent, they can do so by visiting the DGFT website at https://dgft.gov.in and using the ‘IEC Profile Management’ service. Once registered, the IEC branch details will be auto-populated from the DGFT-IEC database. The applicant must ensure that the most recent IEC details are available in the DGFT system. When necessary, steps may be taken to modify the IEC details.

The Help manual and FAQs are available on the DGFT website for more information on registration and application submission. Additionally, one can get assistance by contacting the DGFT Helpdesk service, calling the toll-free DGFT Helpdesk numbers, or sending an email to the DGFT CoO Helpdesk at coo-dgft@gov.in.
