The Central Government has issued a notification regarding the revised rates of Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) as well as the Minimum Wages that will come into effect on October 1, 2022.
The revised rates of Central VDA and Minimum Wages are generally notified to cover the changes in living cost of agricultural and Industrial workers/ employees who fall into the following categories:
ii) Semi-Skilled/ Unskilled Supervisory;
iii) Skilled/ Clerical; and
iv) Highly Skilled.
In addition, the rates of Central VDA and Minimum Wages are further differentiated for A, B, or C-class cities or areas and are notified separately for respective workers and employees who fall into the aforementioned categories. As a consequence of this, separate rates of Central VDA/Minimum Wages are notified for each type of worker and each category of city or area.
The rates of VDA and minimum wages are revised by the central government every six months to cover the changing cost of living of the workers and employees, in line with the upward changes in the consumer price index (CPI).
