Step-wise Summary/ Overview of the Process under Revised CA Courses (Foundation/ Intermediate/ Final) of ICAI to become CA

The ICAI has prepared a step-wise summary/ overview of the process applicable for “Foundation Course Route” and “Direct Entry Route” to Qualify as a Chartered Accountant (CA) and to become Member of ICAI. It may be noted that Graduates/Post-Graduates (with minimum 55% marks in Commerce stream and 60% for others) and Intermediate passed students of ICSI/ ICAI (Cost) can directly enter the ICAI’s Intermediate Course under revised CA Course.

Steps under “Foundation Course Route” to Qualify as a Chartered Accountant (CA) and to become Member of ICAI

i) Register with Board of Studies (BoS) after appearing in Class XII examination so as to complete four months study period (i.e. register till 30th June / 31st Dec. for November/May Examination).

ii) Qualify Class XII examination (if not done earlier)

iii) Appear for Foundation examination in November/May.

iv) Qualify Foundation Course.

v) Register with the BoS for the Intermediate Course.

vi) Complete 8 months of study course.

vii) Appear and Pass in either or both Groups of Intermediate Course.

viii) Successfully complete Four Weeks Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS) anytime after registering for Intermediate Course but before commencement of the Practical Training.

ix) Register for three years Practical Training on passing either or both the Groups of Intermediate Course.

x) Register for the Final Course after qualifying both the Groups of Intermediate Course.

xi) Successfully complete Four Weeks Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (AICITSS) during the last two years of Practical Training but before appearing for Final Examination.

xii) Appear in Final examination during last six months of practical training.

xiii) Complete Practical Training

xiv) Qualify both groups of Final Course.

xv) Become Member.

Steps under “Direct Entry Route” to Qualify as a Chartered Accountant (CA) and to become Member of ICAI

The ICAI allows Commerce Graduates/Post-Graduates (with minimum 55% marks) or Other Graduates/ Post-Graduates (with minimum 60% marks) and Intermediate level passed students of Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI- Cost) to enter directly to its Intermediate Course.

Steps for eligible Graduates and Post Graduates under “Direct Entry Route”

i) Register with the BOS for the Intermediate course (provisional registration allowed to the students doing Final year of graduation).

ii) Successfully complete Four Weeks Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS) before commencement of the Practical Training.

iii) Register for Three Years Practical Training.

iv) Appear in Intermediate Examination after Nine months of Practical Training.

v) Qualify Intermediate Course.

vi) Register for the Final Course after qualifying both Groups of Intermediate Course.

vii) Successfully complete Four Weeks Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (AICITSS) during the last two years of Practical Training but before appearing for Final Examination.

viii) Appear in Final examination during last six months of practical training.

ix) Complete Practical Training.

x) Qualify both groups of Final Course.

xi) Become Member

Steps for eligible students who have passed Intermediate exam. of ICSI or ICAI (Cost) under “Direct Entry Route”

i) Register with the BoS for the Intermediate Course.

ii) Complete 8 months of study course.

iii) Appear and Pass in either or both Groups of Intermediate Course.

iv) Successfully complete Four Weeks Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS) anytime after registering for Intermediate Course but before commencement of the Practical Training.

v) Register for Three years Practical Training on passing either or both the Groups of Intermediate Course.

vi) Register for the Final Course after qualifying both the Groups of Intermediate Course.

vii) Successfully complete Four Weeks Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (AICITSS) during the last two years of Practical Training but before appearing for Final Examination.

viii) Appear in Final examination during last six months of practical training.

ix) Complete Practical Training

x) Qualify both groups of Final Course.

xi) Become Member.
