The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman, Shri Nitin Gupta, recently inaugurated the Taxpayers’ Lounge at the 42nd India International Trade Fair in New Delhi. The lounge aims to spread awareness about the Income Tax Department’s services and initiatives for taxpayers.
Key Highlights of the Inauguration
i) The Taxpayers’ Lounge was inaugurated on November 15, 2023 in the presence of CBDT members and senior Income Tax officers.
ii) Shri Gupta released three digital comic books on the ‘Motu Patlu’ series to explain income tax concepts to young readers in a fun way.
iii) The comics will be available on the Income Tax Department’s national website.
iv) The lounge highlights how the department facilitates trade, in line with the trade fair’s theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – United by Trade’.
Objectives of the Taxpayers’ Lounge
i) Educate taxpayers about the CBDT’s recent taxpayer-friendly initiatives like e-PAN, e-filing, online grievance redressal etc.
ii) Create awareness among children and young adults about the importance of taxes for nation-building.
iii) Provide assistance for PAN application, e-filing queries, Faceless Assessment, and more.
iv) Distribute informational brochures on topics like International Taxation.
v) Obtain taxpayer feedback about issues faced by them.
Interactive Facilities at the Lounge
The lounge has an interactive children’s corner with:
i) Comic books, board games, virtual reality games, and the ‘Aaycar’ game
ii) Interactions with CBDT’s comic character mascots ‘Jaankari Babu’, ‘Tax Pari’ and ‘Taxa’
iii) Nukkad Natak, quiz shows, magic shows, drawing competitions on taxation and nation-building themes
Event Duration
The Taxpayers’ Lounge will be open to visitors from November 14-27, 2023 at Hall No. 5, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
