ICAI’s First Global Professional Accountants Convention in Gujarat

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) hosted its first Global Professional Accountants Convention (GloPAC) on 24th November 2023 at Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Inauguration by Honourable Vice President

The 3-day mega event was inaugurated by Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Honourable Vice President of India as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present were:

– CA Piyush Goyal, Honourable Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles as Guest of Honour

– Shri Praful Pansheriya, Honourable Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Primary, Secondary and Adult Education, Higher Education, Government of Gujarat

– Ms Asmaa Resmouki, President, International Federation of Accountants (IFAC)

– CA Aniket Sunil Talati, President, ICAI

– CA Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, Vice President, ICAI

– CA (Dr) Jai Kumar Batra, Secretary, ICAI

The Vice President lauded ICAI’s efforts in nation building and shaping India’s growth trajectory. He emphasized the pivotal role of Chartered Accountants in India’s economic development owing to their high ethical standards.

Over 4500 Delegates from 25+ Countries

The mega event witnessed a congregation of over 4500 delegates from more than 25 countries. Over 150 globally renowned speakers deliberated on 30+ insightful sessions spread across 3 days.

Distinguished delegates included representatives from international accounting bodies, regulators, economists, academia, business leaders and policymakers.

ICAI’s Global Outreach

In his address, ICAI President CA Aniket Sunil Talati highlighted ICAI’s global outreach with over 8.5 lakh students and 4 lakh members. He reiterated ICAI’s commitment to extending its wings globally, especially with India’s emergence as a global hub.

The ICAI Vice President emphasized the convention’s theme ‘Connecting the Globe, Creating Value’ and the pivotal role of the accounting profession in India’s economic growth.

New CA India Logo Launch

The event also witnessed the launch of ICAI’s new logo for the CA India brand. The refreshed visual identity reflects the profession’s commitment to excellence, transparency and accountability.

MoUs Signed with GIFT City and IFSCA

Memorandums of Understanding were signed between ICAI and Gujarat International Finance Tec-City Company Limited (GIFTCL) and International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA).

The MoUs aim to strengthen accounting skills in IFSC domain and promote financial excellence through joint initiatives.

Insightful Plenary Sessions

The inaugural ceremony was followed by a plenary session on building global accounting firms and positioning India as a global accounting hub.

Other sessions included keynotes on India’s economic resurgence and empowering CAs for global roles. There were also sessions on CAs shaping the future of capital markets.
